Welcome back! Can you eat figs when they're green? They look so aesthetically pleasing! A mix of cured meats, cheeses, and olives are so good for a warm summer evening. After a long day of exploring a city, I could very easily pass on a big meal and just dive into a charcuterie board...
Yes, this variety of fig is green! They’re best when they’re soft, and I like them when they’re almost overly ripe, to the point where you have to be careful to not accidentally smash them on the trip home. That’s when they’re at their sweetest.
Oh that's interesting, I didn't know that! I've seen a bit of a trend with figs where people are cutting them in half, dipping the bottom half in chocolate, letting it harden and then added some flaky sea salt. Looks delicious!
YUM! That sounds amazing. I love anything with salt and chocolate.
I thought of you yesterday when I went to our fruit shop because they told me now the fig variety is the purple kind! It’s interesting here, because everything is very seasonal- first come the breva figs (which are also purple), then the green, then a different purple variety. I’m a fan of all of them!
I love seasonal fruits, especially summer fruits, and figs are very special to me. And I have the memory of dried figs in winter, my father would open them and put one or two little peaches inside. What memories!
Oh, oh, I made a mistake, sorry! I meant "peanuts", not "peaches" 😅 Big difference! hahaa. Just peanuts, and the mix of flavours was really great!
In fact, I'm thinking now... It could be really complicated! How do you put a peach inside a dry fig? 😉 (Note: Angeles, please, review before clicking on "Post"!)
Hahaha I thought maybe there was some type of peach I didn’t know about! I’d never seen paraguayas before moving here (we call them doughnut peaches in English), so I was thinking maybe it was something similar but smaller 😂
I love dates with peanut butter, so I bet I’d like dried figs with peanuts, too! I’ll have to try it!
Welcome back! And those shrimp fritters look amazing! Let me know if you want me to email you a recipe I've just finished for pan roasted chicken with figs and masala - it makes the most wonderful jammy sauce but it won't be online for another couple of weeks to line up when I tend to get the best figs here! xx
So good to have you back, Kiki. Hope you'll enjoy a little quiet time this weekend after such a busy break xx
Thanks, Sinù!! I’m definitely looking forward to a slightly calmer weekend ☺️
Welcome back! Sounds like you had a wonderful break.
For me as a kid, it was Long John Silver's for fried fish.😁
We're about to watch the Madrid episode of Phil. Will probably take notes to ask you questions!
Thanks!! I also loved LJS! I would ask my parents to request extra “crunchies” (the fried batter pieces) every time we went through drive through 😂
We watched the Madrid episode a few weeks ago and it was a good representation of the city! I’m here for any questions you have 😁

¡Ay, higos!!!! I love them!!!!! And what to say about "tortilla de camarones"?? 😋😋
Nice to hear (and read) from you again, Kiki! Hope you had a nice rest, (well, you already told us!) so ... nice to know you really enjoyed!
¡Muchas gracias por este post y.... muy interensante, como siempre! 🥰
Thank you very much for this post and .... very interesting, as always!
I could live off of figs, I think! And to think I spent so many years of my life without them 😆

I love food memories like that! What kind of peaches did he use?

Yes, please, give it a try and tell us how was it for you! 😊🤗
