This film isn't entirely about food or the food industry, but the cooking and baking scenes from the movie Kiki's Delivery Service are so cozy and accurate, so that's where my mind goes first!

I feel like I have to watch this since the main character is named Kiki! I just looked it up and apparently there are two versions: the original animated one, and a live action one. Which version would you recommend?

Oh wow, I had no idea there was a live action version! The only one I've seen is the original 1989 animated film, which is up there as one of my favorite films. The art style and characters are very charming! :) There's also a lot of baked goods!

We just started watching The Bear on Hulu, which is a comedy/drama series about a young, award-winning chef from the fine dining world, who comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop. I think you'd like the "Chicago-ness" of it.

Yes!! We watched it a couple of weeks ago and loved it. It definitely made me miss Chicago (and the food)!

I was a few editions behind on the posts and was reading them in reverse chronological order, so after I posted that comment, I read that you and David had just watched The Bear! LOL! Great minds think alike, I suppose 🤣

It’s from 1987 and won an Academy Award for Best foreign language film, based on a short story by Isak Dinesen :)

I love foreign language films. It’s interesting because here in Spain they have a tradition of dubbing non-Spanish films, but I much prefer to watch in the original language and with subtitles! I actually like to watch everything with subtitles (even things in English), something that drove my parents crazy when I was little 🤣

I agree with you about subtitles, Kiki!

I've seen this film as a kid and as an adult, which gave me some fresh perspective. It definitely feels like a slow, historical love letter to food in particular. (It touches on other themes like religion and love, but the most famous shots are the elaborate food preparation scenes.)

I'm a sucker for Big Night. I really enjoyed the HBO series, Julia. And yes, Ratatouille!

I guess the best movie about food was Julie & Julia. It’s about Julie who takes on the task of creating the recipes of Julia Child. It was a very good movie I learned a lot never giving up and it is possible to do what you thought you couldn’t do!
